Vision: The vision is to create a solid basis for a sustainable and balanced spatial development of St. Maarten to guarantee an optimal living, working and recreational environment for the citizens.
Mission: The mission of the department is to form a solid foundation for a balanced and sustainable spatial development of St. Maarten through targeted spatial planning, public housing, monument preservation and environment and nature. The department accomplishes this through an efficient and innovative working method, standardized procedures, continuous communication with the public and the use of adequate means.
Organizational objectives: • To form policy and legislation frameworks in order to achieve qualitatively sustainable and balanced use of land on St. Maarten; • To review proposal for new development and existing situations to the policy and legislative frameworks so that it complies with the qualitative norm. • To create policy and legislative frameworks for the preservation of buildings and objects of monumental value. • To create policy and legislative frameworks for the promotion of a guaranteed quality of the living environment and nature; • To assist the departments within the ministry with the preparation of policy.
Main tasks: • To care for the planning of projects aimed at urban renewal; • To care for policy development in the area of preservation of monuments; • To promote a sustainable quality of the environment and nature; • To deliver input for policy and legislation concerning spatial development, environmental safety and the implementation of such.
