Franklin Meyers has always had an interest in the socio-economic development of the island. He has been involved in politics for more than 10-years, starting out with the oldest political party on the island, namely Democratic Party (DP). This party was co-founded by the late Dr. Claude Wathey and Clem Labega more than 55-years ago.

Meyers became a member of the Island Council and a Commissioner in the Executive branch of government under the banner of the oldest party, the DP. After taking a break from politics, Meyers decided to join forces with the grandson of the late Dr. Claude Wathey, namely Theo Heyliger to form the United Peoples party (UP) in the summer of 2010.

The youngest party became the second largest party on the island after the September 2010 polls and currently is the largest coalition partner out of the two parties that forms the current Government of Sint Maarten.

Franklin Meyers interest is not only into politics, but covers a wide area including being an avid sportsman and businessman. He loves boating, baseball, soft ball, biking and flying airplanes.

His love for sports has inspired him to put much effort and energy into founding a number of sporting organizations on the island such as: Dodgers Baseball Club, Undertakers Basketball Team, Game Cocks Basketball Team, and the Gorillas Softball Team.
