The Minister of VROMI, Honorable Christopher Emmanuel raised the largest Sint Maarten Flag at the Bell’s Lookout point on November 11, 2017 in light of Sint Maartens Day. The flag project has been highly criticized over these past weeks. However, during the time the Sint Maarten flag was raised on November 11, 2017, many enjoyed the view of the raised Sint Maarten flag which can be seen as far as PJIA. Some persons also stopped to take photos with the flag as the background.
Minister Emmanuel expressed how proud he felt for following through with his vision. The Flag at the Bell’s Lookout Point is not only meant to give the people of Sint Maarten a sense of pride in their Country but to also add an additional attraction for the tourists that will be visiting the island after the passing of major hurricanes Irma and Maria. ‘It is disappointing to see how public figures that people look up to in Sint Maarten use their voice to scandalize an initiative that was genuinely put in action for the people of Sint. Maarten. The flag project costed government 66.000 guilders.
Minister Emmanuel expressed his gratitude to the Bell’s family for working along with him on this project, as well as businesses and other individuals who assisted in bringing this project to reality.
