The Ministry of VROMI, Department Infrastructure Management in collaboration with Sint Maarten Recycling has made provisions for the business community located on Front Street and Back Street to engage in recycling practices for all cardboard material commencing March 25th, 2019.
The focus of the initiative is part of a bigger vision to introduce a competent recycling system for both the business and general community in the future, as well as tackling the garbage situation on Front Street and Backstreet. Therefore, the first initiative is to provide complimentary cardboard pickup that will be executed by Sint Maarten Recycling 6 days a week.
All businesses on Front Street and Backstreet (only) are urged to follow the outlined pickup procedures in order to have their daily cardboard material collected free of charge.
Cardboard pickups will be conducted weekly from Monday to Saturday. Pickups will occur two times a day at 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM. All cardboard material MUST be placed on the business curbside approximately one hour before pickup times. Cardboard is NOT ALLOWED to be placed on the curbside after 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM or on Sundays. All cardboard must be folded flat and tied for a swift and easy pickup as well as preventing the waste from blowing away. Cardboard placed on the curbsides may not include any foam, packaging or other material other than solely the cardboard component. Not adhering to the stipulated manner of cardboard disposal will result in the material not being picked up.
Sint Maarten Recycling will resume collecting cardboard from the general public as of the first week of April 2019. A collection bin will be placed in a designated area. Details for this will be presented to the public in a subsequent communication.
