Introduction

The Department of Labour in accordance with the vision of the Honourable Minister, has decided to utilize this medium to provide transparent and accurate information to the public of St Maarten, and in so doing increase the level of education of the island’s workforce. A country is only as strong as its inhabitants and increasing the knowledge a person possess only makes them stronger. For this reason the Department of Labour is continuing efforts to bring knowledge and strength to the labour market of St Maarten. This strength will provide a better working relationship between employees, who are empowered with knowledge of their rights and Employers, who know what is and is not permitted of them.

Labour was the first price, the original purchase - money that was paid for all things. It was not by gold or by silver, but by labour, that all wealth of the world was originally purchased.  Adam Smith
